Former Sabre Cyr Passes Away at 48

Reports out of Canada state that former Buffalo Sabres forward Paul Cyr has died at the age of 48. Cyr was drafted by the Sabres with the 9th overall selection in the 1982 draft and played for Buffalo for six seasons. He amassed 101 career goals and also spent time with the New York Rangers and Hartford Whalers.

After the Buffalo Sabres introduced Robyn Regehr at a press conference Thursday morning, General Manager Darcy Regier updated the latest news on the possible signing of D Christian Ehrhoff. Regier has talked to Dan Curran, Ehrhoff's agent, and classifies the talks as "so far, positive."

Bob McKenzie of TSN.ca is reporting that the Vancouver Canucks have locked up defenseman Kevin Bieksa with a new contract. The terms of the deal are not yet known. Bieksa would have become an Unrestricted Free Agent on Friday.

With their first-round selection in Friday's NHL Entry Draft, the Buffalo Sabres selected RW Joel Armia out of Assat, a team in the Finnish Elite League. Armia scored 18 goals and finished with 29 points in 48 games last season.

Twitter updates from two different sources offer conflicting reports on the future of Robyn Regehr. The Fan 960 in Calgary had initially tweeted that the defenseman would not waive his no-move clause, but ESPN's Pierre LeBrun is tweeting that Regehr hasn't totally closed the door on Buffalo.

TSN Report: Robyn Regehr Headed to Buffalo?

TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting that Robyn Regehr has been asked to waive his no-trade clause to accept a trade to Buffalo. Regehr is a 31-year old defenseman with the Calgary Flames. He was a 1st round draft pick of Colorado in 1998.

Bufalo Sabres Release 2011-2012 Schedule

The 2011-12 NHL Schedule was released today, and the Buffalo Sabres will be opening the season against the Anaheim Ducks in Stockholm, Sweden. The opening portion of the season will be part of the NHL Premiere series taking place in Helsinki, Berlin, and Stockholm. The Sabres play the next day at O2 World Arena in Berlin, Germany against the Los Angeles Kings.

Chris Drury will go into the 2011-2012 season as a 35 year old center who played in a whopping 24 games because of injury problems. He's a player that is being paid by the New York Rangers to NOT play hockey. He's been a disappointment for the last four years of his career. Oh yeah, and he misled the Buffalo Sabres and played a large part in facilitating the disaster that was July 1, 2007.
