Levitre Moves Again

Orchard Park, NY (WGR 550)  -- The Bills practiced in the rain in Orchard Park on Monday with many players sitting out the workout. Andy Levitre took snaps at LT with the first-team offense. Chan Gailey said, "As I've said every time we talk about the offensive line, my job is to get the five best on the field. And maybe that our five best is playing Chad Rinehart at guard and Andy Levitre at tackle. We're going to take a look at it. That's our responsibility to take a look at it. Levitre is doing an excellent job. He's a versatile player and he's played it before. We'll see how it goes."

The question is, how long is this experiment for is, "I think it depends on them. It depends on both Levitre and Demetrius how long we go with it or whether it becomes permanent or whether it becomes just something we tried for a little while."

This is happening because Demetrius Bell has struggled this preseason. It's not ideal, but Gailey didn't want to sit still, "You'd rather not.  You'd rather not look at those options at this time, but you have to. You sometimes don't get to do it exactly by the book. It's kind of like the quarterback last year.  We didn't get to do it like how we wanted to. You have to be smart and use all of the things to make good decisions. That's what we hope we're doing this time."

Bell had a horrible time containing Denver's pass rushers on Saturday. Gailey said, "Consistency, that's the bottom line.  You have to be consistent up front. You don't have to be great or perfect but you have to be consistent.  We've got to make sure we get the guys that can be consistent for us up there."

After suffering a scary injury in the exhibition loss to Denver, WR Donald Jones missed practice. RB Johnny White who also left the Broncos game was missing as well. The other players not practicing on Monday were Terrence McGee, Corey McIntyre, Arthur Moats, Reggie Torbor, Kellen Heard, Scott Chandler, Craig Davis, Shawn Nelson, Chris Kelsay and Chris White.

Shawne Merriman was on the field. He was limited. He missed the loss to Denver to rest a leg injury.

Gailey commented on many of the injuries. Here's the rundown from the Bills transcript:

On RB Johnny White and WR Donald Jones injuries:
They're both going to be back for the first ball game as I understand it.
Johnny will probably be back a little quicker than Donald.  I think they'll both
make the first ball game.

On WR Naaman Roosevelt:
Naaman got that ankle rolled up.  It's going to be a couple of weeks for him.

On WR David Nelson leaving practice early:
He tightened up a little bit but he came back out and finished.

On LB Chris Kelsay:
Kelsay had a little procedure done and you can ask him about it if you want to.
He's going to be fine.  It's going to take two-to-three days to heal but he will
be fine.

On CB Terrence McGee:
He pulled something in the ball game.  It's not major.  I think he'll be back in
a day or two.

The Raiders took Terrelle Pryor in the NFL's supplemental draft in the 3rd round. Here's more from the transcript and the Bills interest:

On if the team had interest in Terrelle Pryor:
We talked about it, just like we talk about every guy.  Buddy and I talked about
it and we felt like it was in our best interest not to pull the trigger too high
of a level.

On if the team put in a bid for Pryor:
You don't get to talk about those things.  I don't get to.

On if some of the reasoning for not taking Pryor was because of having Brad
Smith already:
Yes, sure it is.  You already have that kind of player and that kind of athlete.
We feel very good about where we are there.

Y win
If the Bill's organization isn't going to put 100% effort into winning they deserve to be the laughing stock of the league. As a die hard fan it breaks my heart but they are one of the 3 worst franchises in the NFL. Hopefully we get another top draft pick cause Dareus is a blue chip prospect for sure. Its pretty hard to miss at pick 3. They can't pick 7-13 cause they always miss there. Also people need to realize ANDREW LUCK HAS ANOTHER YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY. He was red shirted. If Bill's end up with first pick he'll stay in school another year. Guaranteed.

Levitre
Levitre looked horrible at guard against Denver. Where are his supporters now?? Fitz has been just plain bad in camp and the pre-season. Good thing we didn't pay him $7 million a year for being a nice guy and a good interview right? Maybe the coach's know a bit more than the whiners do afterall?

So far...
...based on two preseason games, this might be a very ugly season...especially if THIS is the starting offensive line!! scary!
08/22/2011 5:27PM
Great Organization
Keep letting guys like Peters and Evans go and this is what you get. Absolutely horrible ownership
08/22/2011 6:00PM
Hmmm...
Riveting.
08/22/2011 6:23PM
o-line
at least i`m not the only one who sees there is a problem at left tackle but they didnt fix it putting andy over there go get a free agent already nix you idiot!
08/22/2011 6:42PM
What a joke!
Go out and spend some money and get a left tackle. Levitre will fail there too. Yet this team needs more than a left tackle. Chan Gailey is pathetic.

Levite
It's amazing that wgr only posts one sided opinions. Weak.

Question
When is Shawn Nelson ever either not injured or suspended?
08/22/2011 7:57PM
Yikes!!!!!!!!
They don't feel he's doing an adequate job at guard so they move him to left tackle? This doesn;t sound good. I would love to just hear something somewhat positive come out of a Bills' practice. You know, something like "Ralph just sold the team"
08/22/2011 8:48PM
And it took 3 years to figure out Bell couldn't play........
and to think, we could have paid Peters his money and LT would not have been a problem for a long time...
08/22/2011 10:35PM
Losing and Luck
Since we are going to have another garbage team we better get Luck...Start playing the 2nd and 3rd stringers right off the bat....Oh wait, that's all we have on this team. We're fine.
08/22/2011 11:19PM
About time
Levitre is an upgrade at LT. He's quick and won't be a tackling dummy just standing there like Bell.
08/23/2011 4:18AM
a bad offensive line before injurys!!
we could have had Bulaga but took Spiller who wasnt a need instead. nice job Nix
08/23/2011 5:50AM
ot
hey! maybe the bills can be pathetic enough to go say, 3-13 worst in nfl get #1 pick ANDREW LUCK!.....uh wait, still no offensive line, forget it(sigh)
08/23/2011 9:15AM
What a mess
Ralph's disaster legacy.
08/23/2011 10:39AM
Falling Apart
Boy, this is early. Usually I lose hope by the 3rd game of the reg. season. This looks like a train wreck of major proportions. How long has this O-line been bad. 7-8 years?
08/23/2011 12:24PM
LEVITRE can do the LT job...just wait and see!...GO BILLS
This guy played LT in College at OREGON STATE like a stud...check out YOU-TUBE.... RELAX PEOPLE.... give him a chance to prove himself! GO BILLS!........
08/23/2011 12:42PM
I don't like to defend coaches but...
maybe they wanted to see how well the other guard did so they would be free to move Levitre to tackle. Just a thought, although he wasn't very good in Denver.
08/23/2011 2:40PM
Ha Ha
Nothing more than shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic!
08/23/2011 4:42PM
What About?
the Bills should try the offensive lineman turned nose tackle into a Left Tackle? he is big n fast? Maybe drop a few more pounds but he just might be another jason Peters? it is worth a try?
08/23/2011 7:52PM
How quickly things change
After the good draft, I and every Bills fan thought this was going to be a decent season. Now, with the troubles with the o-line, the pathetic looking offense, the trading of Lee Evans, and the bellyaching from Fred Jackson, this season has already begunto sour. The only cure for the Bills - new ownership.
08/24/2011 7:15AM

Why not play Hangartner at RG just to see what he has I mean can't be worse than Ubick
08/24/2011 9:02AM
Offensive line is offensive
Only Fred Jackson can gain yards with this consistently bad offensive line.. but wait, he's not SEC or ACC so our country-bumpkin coach and GM won't start him.
