NJ Devils forward Zach Parise is headed to arbitration. Parise will be awarded a one-year contract based on his 2010-2011 performance, and will become an unrestricted free agent July 1, 2012 if the Devils and Parise cannot reach agreement on a new contract.
Parise missed considerable time this season with a torn meniscus in his right knee. He scored 146 goals in 4 seasons prior with the club.
The Devils failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 1996. They are also looking to hire a new head coach to replace interim coach Jacques Lemaire.
... you have to do to get this guy Darcy, you want a solid top line player, this is the guy!

Any trades yet?
It never hurts to ask.
06/18/2011 11:21AM
Parise is far too high profile and successful for Regier to go after
Regier likes to find his players at garage sales and the dollar store.

Good Center
If the Devils cant get him back the Sabres should go for him. He would be real nice if they cant get Brad Richards

Trade
I hope the Sabres try to trade for Parise...

tim connolly
again, PLEASE stay away
06/18/2011 4:40PM
Please Darcy!!
I was hopeful that with the new ownership that Regier would actually do something. When I heard he wants Connolly back, I was disappointed to see he hadn't changed his mindset. Hopefully, he'll prove me wrong and GO AFTER PARISE!! The Sabres' NEED a player like him!
06/18/2011 4:50PM
Just a thought
If the Sabres played their cards right, they could go after both Richards and Parise. Please don't call me an idiot! There are ways to do it just saying.

Posters read more carefully
The Devils filing for arbitration prevents an offer sheet from any other team this year and even if he gets to his mid-July arbitration hearing, he will be given a one-year deal with the Devils. He will not be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2011,but rather on July 1, 2012, and only if they don't sign a new contract during the season.

Re:Re:Terry
I third that completely. The dude shoulda been fired on Feb. 22.
06/18/2011 11:22PM
parise
i would make a play for him. keep kassian, foliginio and gerbe though. interesting lineup if he came in
06/18/2011 11:27PM
Parise is an RFA
Taken to arbitration - He can't be signed to an offer sheet. It's in the CBA. Just saying. Besides, the Devils will probably come to terms with Parise before the arbitration date.
06/19/2011 4:23AM
wanted him for years

Re: Just a thought
You got me thinking. This may do it, but there are players that would have to be traded for picks or players not to be resigned. I can have at least some fun here.
Goaltenders: Miller and Turco
Defense pairings: Myers and McNabb, Leopold and Gragnani, Morrisson and Weber, the seventh being Butler.
Forward lines: Richards, Mancari, and Vanek. Parise, Boyes, and Stafford. Roy, Pominville, and Hecht. McCormick, Kaleta, and Kassian. Extra forward is Luke Adam.
Note: This should end up under the cap about 2 million and this is as a reminder is just having fun with this. Looks like a real good team here.

Darcy Will Get Mark Recchi Instead
Darcy likes old guys that cant skate or score. Anyone Disagree? Nope thats what i thought.
06/19/2011 7:22PM
Do it
Go after him like a fat kid on cake.
06/20/2011 12:13PM
Get him.
This.
06/20/2011 5:48PM
Bring in Parise & Drury
we need more of what we had in 06-07 we need some centermen depth
06/21/2011 12:04AM
Go get him
If there is a chance I sure hope we go after him. He is a very good player and is still young. Moves like this can get you very close to the cup. I doubt we get him though, when was the last time Buffalo signed a big time FA? Hopefully I am proven wrong though.

Re: Re: Just a thought
It's likely the Devils will agree to the arbitration amount (whatever that ends up being), then attempt to sign him to a long term deal during the season. That nixes him becoming a UFA right now, unless they don't agree to the arbitration amount (not likely). And, as has already been stated, he can't be signed to an offer sheet anymore. It's possible, however, that if they can't get something done by the time the trade deadline rolls around, he might be available for trade this year at the deadline. The Sabres could conceivably get him then, and already have a top line center on their roster that they signed or traded for (whoever that may be). So, while it is very ambitious (and not likely), it is conceivable that the Sabres could possess and Parise (for a potential playoff run).
06/21/2011 2:11AM
WHY ARE PEOPLE ASKING TO "GET HIM?"
He's not available, he's an RFA filed for arbitration (and the Devils will likely sign him before the hearing anyway). The earliest he would be available to sign is July 2012. By the way, he's a winger not a center in response to one of the earlier posters (not saying I don't want him, just saying he doesn't solve the lack of center problem). Lastly to "wanted him for years," join the club, he's a superstar and has been for years. He had 4 straight years of 30 goals.
06/21/2011 2:14AM
hey morons
he's not unrestricted, the only way to get him is through trade, and any deal with Parise necessarily will contain Myers.
06/21/2011 12:18PM
you clowns
do realize that parise is a left wing and is restricted....i sware you'd think people in buffalo would actually know what they're talking about and not sound like 12 years olds playing NHL 11.
