"I don't know if you guys have been to the hotels in Buffalo, but they're not the nicest places in the world."- Tom Brady
This is the quote that has exploded all over my Twitter and Facebook like Spaghetti sauce in a microwave.
Buffalo is mad. Actually, some of Buffalo is mad. Most of the rest of Buffalo is mad at the people who are mad because it makes our city come across as sad and thin-skinned. Actually, it doesn't make our city come across as sad and thin-skinned because no one outside of said city is really paying much attention to our city. They're busy complaining about or enjoying their city. Do you think everything is perfect in Ash Grove, Missouri or Granite Shoals, Texas? No, of course not. You just don't live in Granite Shoals, so you don't hear about how their waterfront sucks.
The point is this... you're awesome, Buffalo.
Everyone has at least 4 friends who have moved away to North Carolina or Arizona and they all say the same thing. "You need to move down here!" They want you to move down there because you're from Buffalo and you're awesome.
I disagree with every take you've ever had on Sports and, if I'm in the car behind you on the 290, I want to pour coffee into your eyes, but when I say 'Hi' to you in front of the Lexington Co-Op, you always say 'Hi' back. You're awesome.
If I'm in a bar and you're talking about Vaclav Varada with your friends and I don't know you but I still lean in and tell you how awesome Vaclav Varada was, you don't treat me like I have sores on my face. You welcome me into the conversation. You're awesome.
When we move away to Florida, we all meet up at a bar on Sundays and it turns into a Buffalo bar. I know other cities also have their own bars in other cities, but those bars aren't Buffalo bars. Buffalo bars rule because they're full of Buffalonians.
Buffalonians scrape off their cars in the morning. Buffalonians follow losing Sports teams. Buffalonians have to stay in subpar Buffalo Hotels.
I swear these things make you a better person. When you dig your plastic ice scraper into the windshield to try and separate your wiper from the glass and that squeegee part rips and you have to go the parts store to get new wipers and those things are impossible to put on even though they require no tools and your fingers feel like concrete stumps because it's 4 degrees outside and the wind is coming from every direction... that's you becoming a better person.
I know you're a better person because I once tried to get a matress home on the top of a Hyundai and it blew off on Millersport and you pulled over and gave me some rope.
We've been through some bleep together. Don't be mad at Tom Brady because he doesn't like our Hotels, be happy about it. Let's lower our Hotel standards so, the one time Brady has to stay here every year, he's uncomfortable. I hope the Hotel he stays at has itchy sheets. I hate itchy sheets... even though they make me a better person.
