Orchard Park, NY – The Buffalo Bills announced today a new multi-year radio broadcasting partnership with Entercom Communications to broadcast all Bills football games on WGR (550 AM) in Buffalo beginning with the 2012 season.  The Buffalo Bills Radio Network will also be heard on Entercom’s WCMF (96.5 FM) and WROC (950 AM) in Rochester plus another 19 stations throughout the New York State region.

Entercom’s WBEN had previously been the flagship station of the Bills from 1979-1989 and again from 1994-1997.

WGR (550 AM) will air Buffalo Bills football games beginning with the Bills first preseason game in 2012.  The schedule of games will be announced at a later date.

In addition to the live game broadcasts, other Bills related programming will include a live Head Coach Show, live General Manager Show, Bills player programming and a live Bills CEO Show where fans will have the chance to ask questions and interact with the Bills Chief Executive Officer.

“We are excited about the Bills move to WGR 550 AM in Buffalo and the opportunity to speak and engage with our loyal fans, while providing them with the ability to hear our games on the 24/7 sports station they listen to most,” said Russ Brandon, Buffalo Bills chief executive officer. “Teaming with a powerful local brand like Entercom, is a tremendous way for us to reach a wide variety of listeners, from teenagers and their families to seasoned sports enthusiasts alike.”

“We are thrilled and proud to be the broadcast home of the Buffalo Bills,” said Greg Ried, Entercom Vice President and General Manager. “With our 24/7 WGR 550 AM sports station, partnering with the Bills and adding them to our line-up compliments our other programming, enhances the experience for loyal fans and attracts new listeners. Big-time sports, on a big-time sports station is what listeners expect and the Bills certainly help provide all of that.”

So Many Holes
This is tough because there are so many holes to fill on this team. I think the Bills need a linebacker first but if Stevie Johnson leaves they may need to get a WR.
01/04/2012 8:34AM
No signal / Rochester
You need to stop shifting your broadcasting signal away from Rochester at night so we can pick it up 24 / 7
01/04/2012 9:04AM
Hope they broadcast of FM, too.
It is great that WGR has the radio rights to the Bills. Unfortunately, those of us who work in factories or in steel buildings cannot get WGR550 signal very well, if at all. Hope WGR can broadcast the games on a FM frequency, too.
01/04/2012 9:09AM
OHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I don't like this one bit, but I knew something was up. The clown hosts were out of whack on Football Monday after the blowout at New England being softer than usual after an embarrassing loss. It's now official that WGR won't be ripping the Bills anymore. WGR will now revert to the softness like they are with the Sabres and "shill" the Bills now. Two sports teams the hosts can shill to tick the fans off avoiding reality. The proof of shilling already began this morning hearing the Russ Brandon segment with three of the shills in Simon, the nerd, and the idiot in the booth. This news is worse than the plug being pulled on MSG by Time Warner. PATHETIC AND WHAT A JOKE!!! I'm in total shock. My wish of WGR being shut down won't be granted. UNFRIGGIN' REAL!!!
01/04/2012 9:18AM
Now they need to hire some hard ball hosts
Now that WGR can cut directly to the chase on issues concerning the Bills they now need to replace some of the softball patronizing hosts and interviewers that they have on their station. Hard hitting journalism is what is lacking at WGR. For GR hosts its always about not being feared, blacklisted, or unliked.
01/04/2012 9:21AM
NOOOOO!
There is nothing in the world more pathetic than listening to players and coaches doing post game interviews. Can't believe I'll have nothing to listen to on my drive home after games than a bunch of rich losers making bs excuses for the loss. Hope there's some other channel I can tune into to hear some actual talk.
01/04/2012 9:35AM
WGR - home of the losers
gotta nice ring to it!
01/04/2012 9:49AM
Bills on 55
Great news!!!! Will Murph be the announcer??? He is the best.
01/04/2012 10:02AM
THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Now I can listen to mediocre Buffalo Bills football AND mediocre Buffalo Sabres hockey all on ONE RADIO CHANNEL!
01/04/2012 10:15AM
Great News
Now we can listen to our mediocre Bills football along with our mediocre Sabres hockey all on one station...
01/04/2012 10:22AM
Oh... No!
Now WGR broadcasting degreed personnel will be shills of both teams!!! Say it ain't so!!!
01/04/2012 10:23AM
dont get AM at work
now i will not be able to hear any games at work. Your signal is tto weak this is stinks!!! love my wgr outside of work though xoxo
01/04/2012 10:29AM
Buddy Nix Game?
Does this mean no more buddy nix game?
01/04/2012 10:44AM
Question
Does that mean you need play-by-play announcer and color commentators or will John Murphy and Mark Kelso still be broadcasting games?
01/04/2012 10:51AM
Really?
Another bad call by the Bills
01/04/2012 11:11AM
New announcers please
John Murphy and Mark Kelso are terrible. After every play "What do you think about that play Mark?" "Well it was a good catch Murph." So bad!
01/04/2012 11:18AM
So what????
You think this is good news - show me some real improvement in the management of this so-called storied franchise and I'll take notice. Not second sooner. Again so what!!!!
01/04/2012 11:27AM
Good
And now all the extra programs should be put on the air weekdays 10:00AM to noon.
01/04/2012 11:29AM
Bills Announce Broadcasting Agreement
I would have preferred the Bills announcing a broadcasting agreement with MSG/Time Warner. Thus, sparing us the agony of watching or listening to this team and organization blunder through another decade.
01/04/2012 11:30AM
play by play
this is good news if only for the fact this should be the end for the talentless john murphy.if there has ever been a worse broadcaster i have not heard him.he is a joke.
01/04/2012 11:31AM
Not shocked..
I have to say i saw this coming. The bills rarely ever made players available to WGR. This year that changed, now lets see if the station is honest in the teams failures. The station has done well being fair and balanced with the Sabres so I hope it stays that way with the Bills.
01/04/2012 11:38AM
bumsfan
Please Keep White and Simon off the broadcast!
01/04/2012 11:43AM
Score!
Finally! Da BILLS are back on a sports radio station! Can't wait for Schopp and Bulldog analysis and post game broadcasts. Real sports reporters on a real sports station! Hey, I could be your new sideline reporter or maybe I could help coach the JILLS!
01/04/2012 11:45AM
Anything to get Rome and Coward off the air
I Like!
01/04/2012 12:11PM
rick in batavia
good news but why after 5 pm the power is cut down and we cant get reception in these parts
01/04/2012 1:19PM
Now just get rid of Jim Rome
....and you guys are all set. Nothing like listening to a frat boy douchebag rant for 3 hours in the afternoon.
01/04/2012 1:27PM
Rochesterian
This is all fine and good. But can we PLEASE get WGR back in Rochester?! First, the feed on 550 would cut out after the 6 PM hour. Then they had the WGR programming on 950, so I could listen to Schopp and the Bulldog when I left work on both stations. Then it seemed, WGR reached Rochester 24/7 for a while. Then, inexplicably, 950 stopped carrying WGR programming. THEN! The WGR feed started going out before 5 PM. I now can't listen to the show at all. It's ridiculous! Fix it PLEASE!
01/04/2012 2:01PM
love it
what about Murphy I like him, Mark so-so. I always have the radio tuned to sports radio 55, so now I don't have to change the channel to find the game.
01/04/2012 2:22PM
Same in LeRoy
Hope you don't have any 4:00 games. Sorry signal will go off after the 1st quarter.
01/04/2012 3:05PM
Streaming
All those complaining about the signal, you may be able to listen streaming online. Not sure what will happen with that though. I am out of the Buffalo area now and do that a lot. Also with the ability to illegally stream the tv broadcast and hook your computer up to your mewer flat screen TV is great. I do not know what the future holds for these things though. It seems to change often. I worry about the tv streaming, maybe you get prosecuted in the future, who knows? You know you are not doing what is right.
01/04/2012 3:58PM
Whiner line
was such a mistake for WGR. Now people think that all they should ever do is whine. Even when fairly neutral non controversial news is reported, people think it is their job to whine. It is particularly funny when things with our sport teams are going well and people complain loudly and often, the same people usually. They are a small vocal minority, like the Tea Party. It is so much more pathetic on a sports topic than a political one though. In my opinion there are three general psychosis that make up these people. They are all varying degrees of pathetic and shameful. They exist in each of these individual, each to a varying degree of strength based on the individual. They are 1) obsessed with the pathology. These people find the complaining hilarious, want to be a part of it, and focus their brains on it. This goes on for so long that it eventually changes their mental makeup. It is like a drug addiction or an obsession.Later I will get to 2 and 3.
01/04/2012 4:16PM
2)
The dudes who use words and terms like: Hard questions, soft, softee, dough boy, shill, not feared, blacklisted, nerd. These guys are so scary that I am afraid to run into one in public. If I did I would run home as fast as I could in terror, all the while they would be laughing, snarling, and behaving generally menacingly. If I would not have run I am sure I would not just have been ridiculed verbally, but also beaten physically. These are big burly guys who work 36 hours a day, have almost no body fat, and want more scars. they are the police of "hard" Their job is to insure that "hard" is what life is all about. If someone appears not "hard" enough to them, they destroy them and relish in it. They are the ultimate bullies, and they remain so into their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and well beyond. They are to be feared if you are not "hard" enough. I run hme holding back the tears the whole time, because I do not want to cry in front of them. When I get home though, It all pours out as I cower in a corner. Actually, those are all lies.....I love running into these fat drunk losers and I dont run, I laugh hysterically. Putting face to words makes things so funny I may start crying, but it is from laughing.
01/04/2012 4:56PM
Great
I'm glad to hear this news. WGR seems like the natural choice.
01/04/2012 5:38PM
What about Rochester!!
Please improve your daytime and night signal. You are weak during the day and are not there at night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
01/04/2012 6:10PM
Good.
Maybe now you won't feel the need to fill in time with your pathetic food drafts. Maybe now your hack hosts will have to do some work for a change.
01/04/2012 6:28PM
Schopp
this story is both interesting and fun.
01/04/2012 6:49PM
Thanks from Hampton Virginia
This is the best news for me out of Buffalo. Now I can enjoy Sabers and Bills on one network. Thanks Again!!
01/04/2012 9:08PM
Renegade in Myrtle Beach SC
I have always been a fan of GR and I believe this is a great move. More local sports and hopefully no more Rome and Coward!! Looking forward to a great year of sports news on GR! Congrats on a great move.
01/04/2012 9:14PM
Renegade in Myrtle Beach SC
Great move for GR!! I have been an avid fan of GR for years and this is awesome having both the Sabres and Bills on GR. Hopefully GR can get away from Coward and Rome..I had a feeling something was in the works because the GR very rarely had Bills players on the air live!!
01/04/2012 10:39PM
PLEASE
Get Rid of John Murphy and Mark Kelso. The absolute worst. The absolute worst.
01/04/2012 11:11PM
For those of us east of Lancaster.......
Since Entercom also owns WBEN & KB, why not simulcast on either KB's tremendously strong signal, particularly after WGR powers down at sunset or on WBEN's 107.7 FM signal which almost makes it to the Syracuse area. When home it doesn't matter as long as WGR streams the broadcasts to it' s apps. But, in the car you can't get WGR's 550 AM signal 10 miles outside of Buffalo when it' s after daylight!
01/04/2012 11:22PM
need an fm partner please!
like watching hockey without hd....am broadcasts need help...please have one of many fm broadcast stations (102.5?) to help with signal
01/04/2012 11:28PM
fm
Will there be a local fm station to air games? I liked the ability to listen to games on my iPod which has an fm not am receiver?
01/04/2012 11:54PM
"Founded in 1959, the Buffalo Bills are one of the most storied franchises in the National Foot
What???????? And..."Under the guidance of Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson, the Bills played one game in Toronto in 2011." And so it begins...WGR, the official cheerleader station of the Buffalo Bills. I know the press release was put out by the Bills, but come on! They're so proud of that Toronto arrangement.
01/05/2012 12:03PM
Please dont schill like you do for the sabres!!!
man up and grow some!
01/05/2012 12:08PM
i just listened to your Russ Brandon interview!
Is this really what we are going to get from this station???!!! The bills have already laid down the law and you cant ask any questions that make the fron office nervous! Thank goodness you have jerry sullivan..the man will never be bought! he should be allowed to interview these people..not schlep and the bullfrog!
01/05/2012 12:08PM
question
Why doesn't anyone from the station take the time to answer legitimate questions on this site? Do they have a choice on broadcasters (I assume no, or decision alreday made, since John Murphy was on-air yesterday) and will there be an FM signal? Thanks.
01/05/2012 12:36PM
I bet the BUDDY NIX GAME
WILL BE CANCELLED! Your station has no Nads!
01/05/2012 12:38PM
What will become of the Buddy Nix game
you will be gutless and cancel..or will you have the big ones to let him play?
01/05/2012 12:41PM
Have a round table show..
with thurman, kelly, jerry sullivan etc..discuss current and near term future of this team...no shills!
01/05/2012 2:09PM
SQUAAK...SCREEEEE...SRRRKKKKKKKK
Unbelieeevable. Maybe now WGR can invest in a new friggin antenna so we can hear broadcast outside the 10-mile radius around their pathetic tower. Hate listening to Sabres games because their signal stinks so bad - now I get to be tortured by the Billsteam AND the Bills broadcast. Shoot me now.
01/07/2012 9:37AM
There goes your edge
It will be nice to keep that idiot Norton out of the interviews, however your station will be like the grandkids being nice to grampa for the first time in years, just to make sure that they are still in the will. You have just lost your edge and became mundane.Your post Your going to become the pathetic democrats chasing Obamas because he is the man right now. This is bad for your listeners
