Detroit and Pittsburgh have looked so far superior to the rest of their respective conferences since about the second game of the second round that they might have been better off just skipping ahead to the finals then. I mean, the Rangers, the Canadiens, the Stars, the Sharks, the Flyers, the Avalanche -- none of these teams looks to be in the same league as the Red Wings and Penguins, and it's been true for weeks now. Am I wrong about this? Has this ever happened, where the league just stepped in at some point during the playoffs and said hey, this is a waste of time and we all know it, let's just start the Finals? It feels like the NFL playoffs do sometimes, where you have a superior team in each conference and the playoffs end up looking like a formality.
By the way if you haven't been watching Versus during the playoffs you should know that at the end of each period their panelists analyze the game on something they call the "Intermission Report". Thankfully, Versus reminds us of this CONSTANTLY between whistles. This is good because no one watching the game would have any clue that between periods they have guys sitting around talking about the game.
