Buffalo, NY (WGR 550)-The Buffalo Sabres introduced prospect Tim Kennedy to the media today at the HSBC Arena. The Michigan State forward and Buffalo native signed a two-year deal worth $1.27-million plus incentives over the weekend and was ushered to the microphone by General Manager Darcy Regier. Kennedy had to sign a two-year entry level deal because of his age. He is one year over the age limit that allows for a three year entry level deal.
Kennedy was orginally drafted by Washington, but traded to Buffalo soon after. Signing with his hometown team made the Spartan speechless, "It feels great. I really can't put it into words right now. I've been waiting for this day my whole life. I don't know how to talk about it yet but I'm sure within the next few days it will really start to sink in."
WGR 550's Paul Hamilton asked Regier about their plans for unrestricted free agent defenseman Dmitri Kalinin. Regier says that the team will not offer Kalinin a contract.
Regier says an announcement on a new AHL affiliate is only days away.
