Sabres GM Darcy Regier updates the latest on Ehrhoff

After the Buffalo Sabres introduced Robyn Regehr at a press conference Thursday morning, General Manager Darcy Regier updated the latest news on the possible signing of D Christian Ehrhoff.  Regier has talked to Rick Curran, Ehrhoff's agent, and classifies the talks as "so far, positive."

Regier made it a point that he views this move as "significant" and something the Sabres have not done in the past..  However, he views the trade as an "advantage we plan on making pay off."   Ehrhoff is doing his research on the Sabres by contacting players he has skated with such as Mike Grier and Craig Rivet.  In addition, Ehrhoff has talked to fellow countryman Jochen Hecht who joined him on the German national team.  Regier expects to talk to Curran Thursday afternoon after Ehrhoff and his wife discuss their decision further.

Finally, Regier told the press that "perception is not reality" when it comes to Buffalo and cited the schools and quality of life issues that people from outside Western New York do not understand  and that "players love playing here."

Listen to what Regier had to say below!

Perception is not reality
Since I've been away from Buffalo, I've been pleasantly surprised by all the non-Buffalo natives who speak highly of our hometown. Glad to see Darcy is selling both the team and the region.

cautious optimism
anyone else having a hard time shaking off the cautious optimism? im dying to let loose and get super excited but its hard with such a history of defeatism with organization when it comes to doing what it takes to win a Cup Here's hoping that this keeps going, all the way up to and including Richards!!

Rivet
If he talked to Rivet, we are in trouble!!!

defense...
the defense will be stacked with this guy in the mix.

Holy Puck
July 1 is forever circled on my calendar as Christmas

behind the scenes
I don't think this move would have been made if there wasn't something in the works. For all we know this may have been something intiated by the agent. I don't think Terry is going to be flying to Germany though. Let's hope this works out and they still have some cash left to throw around Friday.

Oh oh
He's going to talk with Craig Rivet?? You mean the one that Lindy made Captain and then benched for the final months of his career in Buffalo? Oh my!:(

Can't Get It Done?
Trade his rights to the Panthers, for a 4th-rounder...LOL
06/30/2011 1:33PM
No way give him 5 million
If they can get him for 6-7 years for 4.5 mill that would be fine but I would not want him for over 5 million.

signing
I rather hear tomorrow that Buffalo just signed Tyler Myers to a 10 year deal for 4.5-5 million per season, if Darcy waits it will cost more money. Luckily we have a new owner who pushed Darcy to get things done before the last possible minute. It's not like Buffalo was Florida, the Sabres were spending close to the cap all the time but the extra wiggle cash helps and it also helps being able to dump Morrison and other goofs in the ECHL.

What a blue line it would be...
Myers, Regehr, Ehrhoff... dang. Also, when was the last Buffalo traded for the rights to a player, if ever?

moves
I think both of these defensemen moves has another motive of proving we are serious about winning which could potentially help convinve Richards to sign here. I am convinced the money is no longer an issue with Pegula here.

PEGULA IS AN INCREDIBLE OWNER
Did you see the shorts, sneaks and white socks at the Press Conference worn by our "Owner". Did you hear the positive attitude of Darcy Regier talking about Christian Ehroff..... This is an incredible time to be a long time Sabres fan and living in Western New York. It's like all of us are part of the "Pegula Family".... Pretty Exciting isin't it.

Who cares? This guy isn't Bobby Orr.
Why are we getting updates on this guy? It's not like this is Shea Weber here people. This guy isn't even Bieksa. He's good, but he sure isn't great. Call me when something really big happens.

Rivet may be getting his payback here!
He was a benched captain for months. I wouldn't be that disappointed anyway, Ehrhoff is pretty weak in the corners. Much happier that we got Regehr in.

Erhoff
Back to the possible signing. If Erhoff signs I think that might be the end for Sekera. Possibly packaged in a trade to get the center needed, rather than breaking the bank for Richards? (who has been a consistent play-maker but also has never scored 30 goals in a season)
