We're in the official homestretch of the Rookie contest and according to the Howard Simon Show, the winner will be either one of the final two candidates. Are Howard and Jeremy correct? Here are my takes (remember...only the good ones until after the final decision) on Thursday's hour-long show with Sean Freer.
Sean opened his program with a simple take on the Bills and a well-planned monologue. It's always important to come in prepared and know exactly what you want to say on the air...especially if you have to deal with Jeremy White and Jerry Sullivan every week. Nick challenged him on a couple of points about Peters and the season ahead and again Sean showed he could stand toe-to-toe with a GR host without sounding uncomfortable. Sean even held his ground when he claimed that Bills' fans go to the Ralph mainly to have fun and don't care about the final score.
Taking calls from listeners is much harder than it sounds. Once the calls started, there was a good natural pace to the show and Sean made sure every caller knew his opinion. Even when someone challenged Sean, he was able to keep his cool and dive into a good debate on how important it is to attend Bills game. He even was able to thank every caller which is not necessary but clearly something Sean wanted to do. That showed me that he listens intently to WGR and knows what he needs to do to be successful on the air.
If I had one word to describe Sean's style, it would be smooth. There was nothing that threw him and he sounded perfectly composed at all times. Will it be enough to win?
