(WGR 550) -- The Dolphins have reached a contract agreement with Michigan Offensive Tackle Jake Long to make him the No. 1 overall pick in Saturday's draft. Miami held a press conference this afternoon to make the official announcement.
The NFL Network is reporting that Long received a 5 year deal worth $57 million. The deal includes $30 million in guarenteed money. That would be $3.5 million less than JaMarcus Russell received from Oakland last year.
University of Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long, a 6'7", 315-pound lineman, was a finalist for the 2007 Outland Trophy as the nation's top offensive lineman. According to an NBCSports.com report, the Rams would turn their focus to defense with the No. 2 overall pick. The same source says defensive end Chris Long's camp believes St. Louis will select their University of Virginia stand-out.
