Reigniting old Flames - Sabres' Leopold on Regehr

Robyn Regehr is on his way to the Buffalo Sabres, and he's coming with positive reviews.  GM Darcy Regier says that Regehr brings "thickness".  Jordan Leopold simply says, "He's mean."

Jordan Leopold knows what the Sabres are adding to their blueline with the addition of Robyn Regehr.  The two played together in Calgary for more than 3 years, with a good chunk of that time spent as a pairing with the Flames.

"I think you're looking at a real big guy number one. He's gonna be a guy that's gonna be able to intimidate people with his size and his physical ability. You know, going into the corner, I would not want to go in the corners with this guy, he's mean. I mean, it's just one of those things. I think forwards around the league know that and that's why Robin ended up getting a long deal in Calgary 'cause they wanted to keep him there for that reason."

Regehr isn't getting much attention for the offensive side of his game, because there isn't a whole lot to it.  However, he finds a way to fit it into the total package.
"He can move the puck very well. He's got a rocket of a shot when he gets it off, he's got good vision and skates well for a big guy. And that's where he gets his physical ability and the physical meaness from, from the way he can skate."

More than just a presence on the ice, Leopold says the Sabres are getting a very big addition to the locker room.

"From when I've known Reg, he's never had a problem saying it like it is. If something needs to change, we change it. It's not a personal thing when you say we need to do this, we need to do that. We all have to understand that it's a collective thing where it's going to make us better."

GM Darcy Regier says he's not sure where Regehr will be slotted in the defense corps.  It's possible he's paired with Tyler Myers to allow the Sabres young star to charge up the ice and join the play.  Or, he could be returning to his former partner Jordan Leopold.

Some Sabres fans may find it interesting to note that Leopold says he may lose his Ipod duties in the Sabres locker room.  Leopold runs the music after wins, and says that he wouldn't be surprised if Regehr came in and took things over in that regard.  After all...they ran the show together in Calgary.

Ruff will ruin this
He'll put Regher at forward and Boyes on defense. Then demote Gragnani to Rochester because he's in love with Morrison and Montador.

No more Michael Jackson after the game?
I associated "Billie Jean" with Sabre wins, because you always heard it in the back ground during post game interviews following wins.

Death Tunnel
I've heard Calgary fans refer to Regehr as "Death Tunnel" cuz of his physical play.. Sidney Crosby as also made comments along the line of being afraid to go into the corners against him and was happy he only faced him once or twice a year !!

"Tunnel of Death'
correction- "Tunnel of Death"

WOW
People in buffalo are easy to please, this is the town where they claim Paul Goose was the best playoff forward last year and he had zero goals and was -6 losing all the important faceoffs. So for this trade I am surprised that we haven't had a parade yet. This was a very good move but we need to keep our foot on Darcy's neck so he can bring in a center or 3 and I'm not talking about Rob Niedermeyer or some other washed up bum who talks big in the paper about Cups. Blame Lindy for that move, Nieds is Lindy's step son.

Article in the Calgary Herald
Regehr, 31, is coming off his 11th season as a Flame. The six-foot-three, 225-pound blueliner serves as a steady force on back end and would no doubt prove valuable for any team looking to tighten up defensively.

re:Ruff will ruin this
where to start. i know your TRYING to make a joke but jokes are usually funny or usually make sense. Montador doesn't have a contract with us. why would any one put a stay at home defenseman at forward if they weren't injury depleted. why would he put Boyes on defense. i think Gragnani earned a spot in the playoffs last year and when has he shown love for morrison. Ruff is one of the best and one of the most respected coaches in the history of the league. your a clown who cant even tell a joke thats been beat to death 50000x over

REBUILDING
Regier , you lost your handcuffs ! You have to retool this team again ! Thanks to Quinn . Go out and get Jovanoski too HEE HEE !! Make every team that comes to our barn to pay the price ! That's what we need . I know you can't get Richards , but , there are a couple of other centers , that can feed the puck too . And a lot cheaper too !

great pick up
This is what our team needs. Big mean D man. One step closer.

Thickness
Darcy already signed a guy who was thick, he signed Spacek who came to training camp 30 lbs over weight and scored zero pts in 16 playoff games in year the team had the best chance ever to win the cup. If you want Myers to be Thick just start feeding himdouble cheeseburgers.

Talk About Old Flame
With Philly having a fire sale on players, I would love to get Danny Briere back! He a prolific scorer in the playoffs, and has the grit to get things done. Darcy GET BRIERE BACK!!!!!!!

Only question...what number will he wear?
I doubt Goose is giving up his #28, so what number will Regher wear?
