Pittsburgh, PA (WGR 550) - The Pittsburgh Penguins rallied from a 3-0 defecit to beat the New York Rangers in game 1 of their Eastern Conference Semifinal series 5-4.
The Mellon Arena crowd went into a frenzy with 1:41 left in regulation as a Sidney Crosby shot from just above the right faceoff circle went off the shin of Evgeni Malkin and past Henrik Lundqvist to give the Pens the lead for good.
It was a complete turn of emotion for Pens fans as they were silenced early in the second period when the Rangers built a 3-0 lead. Pittsburgh battled back with two offensive explosions to take their first of the game. Jarkko Ruutu and Pascal Dupuis scored back-to-back goals in a span of :14 seconds to get the Rangers' lead down to one, and then Marian Hossa and Petr Sykora scored goals during a 20 second span early in the third period to put the Pens ahead.
Jaromir Jagr nearly tied the game in the final seconds of regulation as he hit the post with a wrist shot in the closing moments.
