Pittsburgh, PA (WGR 550) -- The Penguins moved closer to clinching the Eastern Conference title Sunday with a little help from an unlikely hero.
Max Talbot, who was scratched the last three games with a foot injury, scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to give the Penguins a 2-0 series lead.Jordan Staal would put the icing on the cake with 30 seconds left in the game, scoring an empty net goal to finish off the Flyers 4-2.
The Flyers managed to tie the game twice even with a depleted defense.Braydon Coburn was hit in the face with the puck by Pittsburgh’s Hal Gill early in the first, forcing the Flyers’ defenseman to leave the game.The Flyers are already missing Kimmo Timonen, who is sidelined indefinitely due to a blood-clot in his ankle.
The Flyers will have a chance to rebound Tuesday, when they will host the Penguins in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final at 7:30pm.The game can be heard right here on WGR 550, with pregame beginning at 7:15pm.
