ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the NFL owners could opt out of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement as soon as Tuesday. The decision by the owners would have no affect on the 2008 and 2009 seasons, but would hold many repercussions for 2010 and beyond.
The 2010 season would be played without a salary cap and unrestricted free agency for players would begin after six years of service rather than the four in place in the current CBA. The selection of eligible college players in an orderly fashion would cease to exist starting in 2011.
The deadline for opting out is November 8th, but Mortensen reports many owners want to opt out of the labor agreement now.
