“You have to be a professional about it,” Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller said during an appearance on The Howard Simon Show. “It’s a lot harder to hold your head up and go about your business around here where everybody pays attention to it. I don’t think we’re out of it by any means.”
Miller's year has mirrored his team's, with thrilling highs and some disappointing lows. His 2.60 goals against average is below his career average, and his save percentage of .909 is right on his career mark. He's posted a career-best in shut-outs, but also had games like Friday, when he allowed three of the first 13 shots he faced to cross the goal line.
"We've got to get up with some dignity and grace and go about our business," Miller said "The best thing we can do is ignore the tendency to be fans ourselves.”
The goaltender joined the show in part to talk about some of the work his Steadfast Foundation is doing to raise money for Carly's Club and Roswell Park. Miller spoke of finding creative ways to create awareness towards the struggles of children with cancer and other diseases, including getting businesses to donate money for each save he made this year, with a goal of more than $100,000.
The Steadfast Foundation has donated, among other things, technology which allows some kids in quarantined areas to interact through webcams or the Internet with friends and family. For more information, check out:
