(WGR 550) --Two members of the Sabres brass and Ryan Miller met with the media at HSBC Arena just days after the team announced a five-year contract extension with the goaltender.
"It's awful nice to have ownership in place that cares about the team and cares about you as a person," Miller said. "We've had some success and we have a real great future here. That's why I want to stay."
Miller's deal runs through the 2013-14 campaign, and the American-born backstop counts continuity in the front office as one of the reasons to stay in Western New York, and mentions his teammates as well.
"Not a lot of people have had the chance to have a career like I have where I got to be around a great group of guys for a consistent amount of years," he said. "I think that's the essential part of a winning hockey team, that you have guys who know about each other and care about each other, and this is definitely what Buffalo represents."
The extension is worth $31.25 million over five years.
