Lynch plea expected

nick@wgr550.com

Sources tell our sister station WBEN that Marshawn Lynch's courtroom appearance will occur Friday and that the Bills running back will likely plead guilty to a parking violation to end the hit-and-run investigation into an  May 31 accident involving his sports utility vehicle.

The Buffalo News is reporting that Lynch will make his first formal public statement on the matter Friday. Erie County District Attorney Frank Clark has said the matter will be resolved by the end of this week. That report says "authorities investigating the May 31 accident have discussed two possible traffic violations: failure to exercise due care to avoid striking a pedestrian or leaving the scene of a property-damage accident."

According to the report, "Law enforcement officials have said that it was dark and raining, that the victim was wearing dark clothing, that the driver may have been distracted by another woman in front of the victim and that the driver did not try to hide the vehicle, which later was found in Lynch’s Hamburg driveway. Sources also have said that both Lynch and his passenger, Bills rookie wide receiver Steve Johnson, have claimed they didn’t know their vehicle had struck anyone."

Each of those violations carries a maximum penalty of $250 and 15 days in jail, but first-time offenders are all but assured of avoiding jail.

Attorney Timothy O'Connell represents Shpeley and tells WBEN his office is preparing a possible civil suit against Lynch, but has not yet filed one.
