Gameday: Sabres Host Islanders In Matinee
comment below...
02/13/2011 5:20PM
this team
is so bad. playoffs? yeah right
02/13/2011 5:44PM
Now can we admit...
...that Miller is not a good goaltender. His team post 6 GOALS and he still can't out perform TWO AHL GOALTENDERS. Nice game Ryan. You make me sick.
02/13/2011 5:47PM
what a suprize
15 goals in 3 games get this bum out of net.The team has to score 10 goals to win with this bum in net he sucks. Why after 4 goals let in is he still in net, cause ruffs a coward and can't sit this bum down.We will never win a thing wit Mr Softee in net
02/13/2011 5:52PM
Miller
Miller needs to make a save. I like Miller, but he could not stop a beach ball today, and he was outplayed by a fifth string keep. I don't want to let the rest of the teem off the hook, because Butler and Morrison were, well... crappy, but a save Miller played worse.
02/13/2011 5:54PM
No Doubt
Ryan Miller cost us this game. He was pathetic and couldn't stop a beachball if there was one around. I think they ought to trade him. He is getting worse blowing leads. Another two goal lead...GONE! And they call him elite???
02/13/2011 5:54PM
WE NEED A RELIABLE BACKUP
Seriously. Maybe Miller wouldn't have had such a bad game today if he hasn't started, what, 28 in a row? And why has he started that many in succession? Because our backup is horrible. WE NEED A BACKUP WHO CAN WIN! And we need one NOW! Trade for one. Miller needs rest, and we need to rest assured that our #2 goalie can net us 2 points.
02/13/2011 5:57PM
Miller
Looked awful. Think he needs a break Lindy?? I doubt Patty wouldve let in 7. Sekera AGAIN with the giveaway (s). 2 points lost.
02/13/2011 5:57PM
Are you kidding me?
Miller gives up 7 goals! So much for the Vezina trophy. We officially have the best mediocre goalie in the NHL.
02/13/2011 6:00PM
Any trades yet?
There better be after this. Now we have a goaltending problem to deal with. Miller blows! I can hear the whiner line now on Mr Softee.
02/13/2011 6:01PM
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!
FOR CHANGES!!!!!!!!!!!! Embarrassing
02/13/2011 6:04PM
Miller
Looks horrible!
02/13/2011 6:06PM
Miller
Pretty sad to see our "elite" goaltender get outplayed by a couple of goalies that barely belong in the NHL.
02/13/2011 6:16PM
Incredible
Say what you want about how the islanders have nothing to lose. The fact of the matter is that they are NOT a good team who came off a huge brawl the other night and are down to their 5th goaltender. Miller was horrible, the defense was horrible, and it's the same result whenever this team needs to win a big game. Once again, this teams blew it.
02/13/2011 6:17PM
terrible
You just can't lose out on 2 points against this team. They had to be wiped out from the other day. Pretty sad, but all in all, didn't we all know Buffalo was (and still is) kind of playing over their head? I mean, this team is decent, but probably no better than 9th or 10th in the conference. They have games in hand over the three teams ahead of them, but how much noise would they really make even if they made it as an 8th seed. I would like to see them generate some extra revenue for the new owner, but would that just mean it will be the standard -- "we made it to the playoffs and are only a player or two short."I hope they do make it, but efforts like this against a team like the Islanders (who you should have taken 6 points against this season) only goes to show they have a lot of work still to do.
02/13/2011 6:20PM
Really Lindy?
Tied game, 4 minutes to go, and the line of Gerbe-Neidermeyer-Kaleta is out there. Then again 2 minutes later, same line. Was Lindy purposely putting his 3 weakest forwards out there at the most crucial of times?
Miller should have stopped at least 2-3 of those goals. Another loss and another point slips away at the hands of the best AHL team, the NY Islanders.
How about a trade or 2 or 3? Because this current team is not playoff caliber...
02/13/2011 6:33PM
Ruffs System At Its Best
With every lead they had, they sat back. Vintage Lindy Ruff...sit on the lead with pathetic goaltending. Very smart. This guy must be fired and take Regier with him. Losing to the Islanders is unacceptable. The three losses to them...there's your playoff spot. Mister Softee sucks. He's in love and must be moved. Six goals scored should be enough to win. Miller is terrible this season. A 3.10 GAA is not elite. They should have been in a playoff spot all season. Another two goal lead down the toilet. How many is that this year BLOWN???
02/13/2011 6:58PM
This is not a good team
Six points given away to the islanders in the last two weeks. Lindy Ruff is Mr. January. What a coach. Nobody coaches in January like Lindy Ruff. Pegula would be a fool to let him go. What would he do in January every year? He might have a losing Januaryrecord.
02/13/2011 7:17PM
Miller
Biggest joke in the NHL better trade him fast befroe the secret is out! Looks like a whiner liner knew more than the media on him!
02/13/2011 7:24PM
ilse did buffalo a favor
the goals are coming sekera out for six weeks ie hint byron as his repacement
02/13/2011 7:31PM
How Does This Happen?
How can the Sabres let one of the worst teams in the league own them all season? If they're going to mail it in like this, they should at least start Lalime and give Miller a rest.
02/13/2011 7:35PM
Hopeless..
This is not a playoff team. And if they reach the playoffs they cannot win a series with Miller. He looks tired.
02/13/2011 7:58PM
When They Miss The Playoffs
Take a good look at these three losses to one of the worst teams in hockey and better yet all the two goal leads Miller blew this season. Houston, we got a goaltending problem here in Sabreland. Ryan Millers not very good, they call him Mr Softeeeeeeeeeeeeee...whatever how it goes.
Punked by Grabner again!!! Ooooh, dat jingle!
02/13/2011 8:14PM
Maybe it's time...
To trade Miller to LA so he can be with his sweetie. Clearly been distracted by something this year. It happens all the time when these guys get married or engaged. The Sabres would get a good return for Miller who up until last year is average at best.
02/13/2011 8:30PM
What happened?
?
02/13/2011 8:35PM
you anti miller folk are morons
dude has played 30 games in a row.. and needs a rest
all you TRADE Miller clowns make me sick.. aren't real fans just morons hiding behind a message board.. being haters to make up for your own vast inadequacies..
02/13/2011 8:42PM
Stafford scores league leading 4th- 3 goal game
Trade him. He's been playing hard in his contract year and he's going to go back to coasting next year. Trade him now. We have a tired goalie playing like a tired goalie, sad defensive pairings and hit or miss offense. Trade him (and see if they'll take Connolly along for a bag of pucks).
02/13/2011 8:48PM
Regier knows how to pick "em!
Nice team you put together Darcy! Yes, give that bum another chance. Golisano didn't put this team together, Regier did, and Ruff coaches them.
All you Sabre fans who want to keep these two winners, good for you, you must enjoy being the brunt of jokes.
I want them both gone before the sun rises again, I am tired of losing the same tired way they have been, for year after year.
02/13/2011 9:15PM
Sabres Fans
You are a joke, bashing Miller for one bad game is embarrassing. Who is available that is better?
02/13/2011 9:15PM
Woman
Since Miller proposed to his chick his mind has been elsewhere and so has his goaltending. Miller dump the chick already and get back your true form...
02/13/2011 9:21PM
you have got to be kidding me
how do you lose that game?! its the islanders! can anyone even tell me anything about who was in goal for them tonight?! pitiful
02/13/2011 9:30PM
Attention Idiots
Miller is not the problem. Overplaying Miller is the problem.
02/13/2011 9:38PM
Let's get it right
The Islanders are on their 8th goalie of the season, so beaten by an 7th & 8th string goalie.
02/13/2011 10:18PM
MILLER GOES OFF
Not sure if anyone heard the audio of Miller's postgame interview. Miller was aggitated with a reporters question and good old JERRY SULLIVAN jumps in to save the day. (sarcasm). The buffalo news needs to get a new reporter. The guy stirs up garbage and needs to have his way. Leave Miller alone, I'm pretty sure he knows he played awful.
02/13/2011 10:25PM
more audio
No offense, Paul, but the interview with Miller before your question was way more entertaining.
02/13/2011 10:50PM
MIllsey
Obviously needs a game or two off. He let in a few awful goals. The D never really showed up. The Islanders stole 6 points from this team. That may come back to haunt the Sabres. It may not. Still a lot of hockey left, but they can't let this gameget in the way of themselves. Get past it, because this week is pretty darn big.
02/13/2011 11:07PM
We didn't lose 2 points
only 1, an ot loss still counts as 1 point
02/13/2011 11:08PM
trade Miller for a scorer and a backup
Yip, O'Reilly and Anderson from Colorado.
02/13/2011 11:22PM
Really??
That's the best line of questioning they can come up with? "Do You feel OK?" and "Are You angry at the loss, what are you angry about?" I am sure those are the types of questions that win Pulitzers. I am not defending Miller, because he did have a terrible game, but, seriously where were these questions going? Sully may criticize Miller for being "childish" but the questions were equally childish. If you
are going to criticize an athlete (or anyone) for not answering questions at least make sure they are decent questions. Of course Miller is pissed, he played terribly and he of all people knows it.
02/13/2011 11:33PM
Hecht...please leave now...
I am physically ill having you in my living room every other night.
02/13/2011 11:44PM
Miller is pathetic
You have got to be kidding me people, saying miller needs a break. HE JUST HAD 9 DAYS OFF for the all start break. He is only on his 5th game in a row. If he can recover after 9 days off, 1 game wont to a thing. He is a joke. Time to go. Make room for enroth!!!
02/14/2011 12:03AM
How can you blame Miller?
this guy plays way too much. Biron was available, and we passed him up for a guy who the organization has ZERO confidence in. When an opportunity arises to play a backup, we call up Enroth! So why then is Lalime on this team?
02/14/2011 12:33AM
Dumb
You all are dumb. 31 games in a row he's played. big deal, he loses us ONE point. Next game...
02/14/2011 12:45AM
Give Ryan Miller A Break...
For crying out loud. The Buffalo Media needs to have a few beers and relax. Miller has started ..what 26 games straight? Jeezus the guys probably fatigued and why are you going to ask an obvious question to stir up things.. You MEdia in Buffalo are A-Holes. He had a bad game, and competitors like Miller will never admit it. Just lay off the guy jeez.
02/14/2011 1:11AM
let's get it right
7th 8th string goalie?
These goalies no matter what string are in the NHL for a reason. Wait let me repeat myself.... Thee N H L . They are all capable of making saves and winning games. That's why they are in the N H L . The N H L.
02/14/2011 7:19AM
Miller needs to be better but Sully needs to find another job
Sully is a... I must attack and confront everyone and everybody.
The guys playing for the Islanders are minor league players at best. THEY are both in the NHL because the Islanders are on the 4th and 5th goaltenders. THEY outplayed Miller.
02/14/2011 8:21AM
Backup
Why can they not sign a decent backup goalie? Is it Darcy's fault? Is it because Lindy refuses to use a backup no matter who it is? What is the deal? 31 straight games, seriously!?!? There have been several games during the 31 that Miller has looked average or worse. In fact there have been few games that he has looked great. Yes, every game is very important if this 10th place team full of overpaid, under-talented players gets a chance to lose in the first round of playoffs but do they think Miller can play every game without showing any negative side effects? Handling goaltenders is Lindy absolute worst area. Also how many teams in the NHL have their captain as a healthy scratch? I would guess just 1. What is that saying to the team? I hope more than anything that Mr. Pegula restores some heart with this team & pulls their heads out of their *&^%!
02/14/2011 8:42AM
you people are brutal
you people are brutal, how about the defensive breakdowns in his own end, more giveaways and lost battles, I would say at least three of those goals he had no chance on because forwards gave up on plays and d men just looked lost.
give me a break. and for those of you calling for Lalime...are you high? Miller is going through an average stretch hell be fine. relax, they got a point, hell bring his game against Montreal
02/14/2011 8:53AM
No, let's get it Right
Your right, they are in the NHL for a reason and the reason is because goalies 1-6 are injured, not because they are capable of making saves and winning games. Without injuries, neither of these goalies gets a sniff in the NHL. Miller is 31st in GAA...31st!!!! Enough said.
02/14/2011 9:07AM
Re: WE NEED A RELIABLE BACKUP
While I do not disagree about needing a reliable backup, I disagree with Miller needing rest. The guy had 9 days off and hasnt had any back to back games since. He has had a game, 1 day off, a game, two days off... That is nothing more than any goalie would play. I think the rest actually HURT Miller and his performance, he looks lazy on plays and unfocused.
02/14/2011 9:16AM
Re: you anti miller folk are morons
I was very pro Miller and I think a lot of if not all of these anti Miller clowns on here were glorifying him last year. The simple fact of the matter is that Miller had 9 days off, which was ample rest and he cannot use that excuse for Sundays game. Miller looked unfocused and ill prepared last night. His post game presser was even worse. However, I would rather have a goaltender who gets angry and emotional after a big loss like that than one who simply says "I missed some saves." Goaltending nowadays depends greatly on the defense in front of them and the backchecking of the forwards to break up scoring chances. Buffalo has had a below average defense all season. However, its time to stop making excuses! Miller sucked last night.
02/14/2011 9:19AM
Sully's a joke!
Is their something going on between Sully and Vogl on the side??
Has Sully every had anything positive to say about any buffalo team? Very mature of you Sully!
02/14/2011 9:31AM
Overall
The comments on here are pretty amusing. Miller played terrible, nobody is denying that (except maybe Miller). The idea that one bad game defines a player is also a bad concept. Miller is a leader in the locker room and he knows more than anyone that he let his team down. For all we know, he could have went into the locker room after the game and apologized to his team. Then, he comes out to talk to the media, after a brutal showing in net, when he doesnt have to! The guy has character, cares about winning in Buffalo, and is a decent to good goaltender. The questions asked to him were moronic by the media. If you want to know if Miller has lost focus or is distracted, ask him that. Do not give a terrible set up question like "How do you feel?" That question was childish as previously stated and the media should hold itself to a better standard. I am all for asking the tough questions and holding players accountable, but ASK THE QUESTION do not test the waters with stupid lead ins. All of that said, Miller is going to come back strong against Montreal and hopefully his defense can help him out a little bit... they were equally to blame for that loss, allowing 3-4 of the 7 goals. Win and lose as a team and last night they lost. Hopefully they discuss it in the locker room, fix the problems and come out strong against Montreal.
Oh and did they really call a 4 minute hooking penalty in that game!? Also, did you agree with the charging call on Kaleta? (Not saying these plays mattered in the overall scheme, we lost, just wondering peoples thoughts.)
02/14/2011 9:33AM
Thank you Ryan
Finally someone has the stones to tell the hack reporters at the news where to go. Miller has not been himself this year, no question about it but to pull the plug on him is crazy. You need not look any further than Tim Thomas to know it can happen. I wish more athletes would tell the 2 bit second rate Buffalo News reports to F-off! It's what you get in a town with no other newspaper that can compete with the news and raise the level of journalism. Thank you Ryan for saying what I was thinking!
02/14/2011 9:39AM
MIller defenders
FOr everyone saying "he lost us one game" Maybe you do not realize he has allowed 4 or more FIFTEEN (15) YES `15 times this season.... Is that because he has played 31 in a row? They just came off the allstar break (which he was not in, because of lets in too many goals) and only 1 of those 15 came yesterday.... so.... whats the excuse for the other 14? Back to back nightS? Bad defense? Lindy? COme on get off it... he lets in too many, this is his career.. one elite season... ONE.
02/14/2011 9:59AM
Vogt punks Miller! Euphorics Cry!
looks like the wheels are all the way off for the flash in the pan Cryin Ryan. Pretty bad when a reporter punks you! Tough to be a euphoric these days! GOLLY!
02/14/2011 10:08AM
HYPOCRITE
Jerry Sullivan came across as the biggest hypocrite on Howard and Jeremy's show today. He calls Miller a baby? Look how offended Sullivan got when Miller asked him why he's in the lockerroom when he's NEVER there. Sullivan regularly admits he doesn't follow the Sabres hardly at all. He admits he doesn't really care about them. Is the question to Miller about his play appropriate? Sure. Was Miller off base asking Jerry why the hell he's in the lockerroom when he never usually is? Absolutely. He was there because he smelled a story. Mr. Negative smelled a story brewing after Miller let in 7 goals, and he went to get a reaction out of him. Mission accomplished, Jerry. But next time you want to call someone out for being a "baby," you might want to watch yourself before you do so. No one likes the pot calling the kettle black.
02/14/2011 10:09AM
playoffs?
LOL at all the people that said they are a playoff team on the poll a couple days ago.
02/14/2011 10:13AM
PATHETIC
No, not Miller's game so much as the fans reaction. Buffalo fans are always dying to run SOMEONE out of town. The same people raving about Stafford's production were trying to run HIM out of town last year. It's a joke with this city. Grow a pair and suck it up, for God's sake. Goalies don't often have stellar year after stellar year. Ask the Bruins. Tim Thomas was replaced last year. He was injured and when he was healthy he was ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! This season? He's the best goalie in the league and will probably win the Vezina. He's not young...it's not because he grew up and became better. He had an off year. It happens. When it does, it's the team's job to pick him up and help him out. He needs to be good enough and most of the year he has been. Last night, he wasn't close. Run him out of town? Give me a friggin break, people! Typical Buffalo. No wonder we're the only people who think we have the "best fans" around. Miller will be the next former Buffalo goalie to end up in Detroit winning Stanley Cups leaving the fans wondering, "what if?".
02/14/2011 10:53AM
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?
ALL THE GAMES MILLER WON FOR US LAST YEAR AND THIS YEAR AND HE HAS A ROUGH GAME....GIVE THE GUY A BREAK!
02/14/2011 11:25AM
Wow, give Miller some respect
I think Ryan Miller have proved what type of goalie and player he is both on and off the ice since he has come to Buffalo. Every elite goalie will have a bad game and even a bad stretch from time to time. Fans need to stop being short sighted and give Ryan Miller the respect he has earned and deserves. Personally I think the manner in which Vogl and Sullivan approached and questioned Miller after the game was classless to say the very least. Seriously, fine me one elite goaltender in the league that has not had a bad game, bad stretch of games or even a below average season in his career.
02/14/2011 11:33AM
TWO WORDS
FIRE RUFF!!!
02/14/2011 11:49AM
Re: Sully's a joke
No he isn't. It's about time we had some tough reporting going on over there with the likes of Vogl and Sullivan. Don't you think the reporting has been way too soft over the years idiot?
Miller did suck yesterday and that wasn't the first time this season he sucked. His brain is in love and hockey is secondary at the moment and duppa Ruff can't see that? Get rid of him before its too late. We need more reporters like Vogl and Sully around here. Keep up the great work guys. It's nice to finally hear the truth around here. Get tough with the GM next.
02/14/2011 12:57PM
Sekera....
SUCKS. I've never seen a defensemen blow so many plays!
02/14/2011 12:58PM
to the Miller worshipers
why don't you get a bit educated. Talk to me about his career stats, how many elite years he's had statistically. Then talk to me about how he's performed in pressure situations like against Carolina when he had a lead, in the President Trophy team, in the Olympics, against Boston losing in the first round to Rask. The evidence is simply overwhelming, the excuses have run out, he knows he's been exposed. He likes to play the part of the "superstar" and he's not. He's been built up by the media and he's showing you what reality is. Time to trade him before he has no value whatsoever.
02/14/2011 1:09PM
Calling for Milelr to be Traded BEFORE Calling Ruff to be Fired is Stupid...
I like Ruff, don't get me wrong, but except for Biron, he's never trusted his backup netminder and has run his top guy into the ground.
Either get a backup netminder that can play or MAKE RUFF PLAY HIS BACKUP.
There was no reason for Miller to play yesterday. We haven't had a good record against he Isles, make it a throw away and actually maybe the defense comes to play in front of a backup netminder. Way too many gaffs in our backed leading to goals.
31 straight games....that's a joke no matter how the schedule falls.
02/14/2011 1:19PM
Trade him
I have been saying it for the last 4 years. Trade him now. He is not good enough to win the Stanley Cup on any team. He makes too much money, and simply isn't good enough. He is Mr Softy, plain and simple. He always blames the team when he hasa bad game. I wish he would just shut up and make a save once in a while.
02/14/2011 1:23PM
Re: Pathetic
Miller is in love and his career is out west. This isn't Tim Thomas we are talking here. At the barber shop, you know what the saying is. Neeexxxxxxt!!!
02/14/2011 1:26PM
Dumbest fans in the NHL
Anyone sticking up for Ryan Miller just shows that Buffalo fans are the dumbest in the NHL. Trade the overpaid, most overrated goalie, everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
02/14/2011 1:47PM
Cup?
I just don't see enough mental toughness from Miller to show that he'll ever backstop this team to a Cup. He always seems to give up a soft goal when a huge save is most needed. Drop to his knees and watch the puck sail over his shoulder. Sound familiar? Sorry, but i've seen enough.
02/14/2011 2:44PM
Re: Miller needs to be better but Sully needs to find another job
I wouldnt say the other goalies outplayed Miller. They let in 6 goals! The net minders on both ends played pretty bad.
02/14/2011 2:48PM
Re: No, let's get it Right
A lot of players get thier starts because of injuries to other guys and they may very well be capable of playing at that professional level. Steve Young got his start because Montana got injured. There are plenty of other examples. However, these two AHLgoalies were getting lit up (6 goals) and overall the goaltending was brutal on Sunday.
02/14/2011 2:52PM
Re: playoffs?
LOL at you taking 1 game from an 82 game season and making it the cover page.
02/14/2011 2:55PM
Re: PATHETIC
You are correct. Buffalo fans are very fickle.
02/14/2011 8:20PM
want some cheese to go with that wine?
Hey Miller don't be upset because for once a reporter finally called you out. Your supposed to be a so called elite goaltender so when you let in 7 goals reporters are going to ask you questions like they did. Hey Miller grow a pair and be a professional. When you were getting hit with these questions come back and say its tough playing 30 games in a row this game was my fault lindy needs to sit me down for rest occasionally.
02/15/2011 10:00AM
Re: Re: Sully's a joke
Nobody is complaining that the Buff News Reporters are asking tough questions and holding our athletes accountable. Our problem is their line of questions and how they went about it. It was just a stupid way to ask an angry athlete a question. Obviously, after a loss, in which he let in 7 goals, Miller was upset. If Vogl would have said "Ryan, who is to blame for your performance tonight?" I dont think anyone would have complained about the reporters if Miller blew up at that question, but instead the reporters asked moronic questions at the very edge of what they wanted the answer to be. Its plain and simple, if you want to know who is to blame for his performance, ask him that. Do not ask him "How do you feel?" How do you feel is a largely open ended question and you ask closed questions when you want a solid answer and not a vague opinion. Also, Sully DOES only show up when Buffalo is at its worst... this guy needs to get out of town and stop preying on the worst stories in Buffalo. Somebody make this guy do a feel good peice so I can watch him struggle to be happy.
02/15/2011 10:05AM
Re: want some cheese to go with that wine?
I dont think he is tired, hence his confusion in the moronic questions he was asked. Maybe the reporters should be professional and ask REAL questions to get REAL answers instead of beating around the bush with questions like "How do you feel?" Who said Miller was elite? Fans? Miller never calls himself elite even though he holds himself to higher standards than we all do. Get over the 30 games in a row garbage... if the guy has a bad game and you are all going to get mad at him for blowing up at a stupid reporter, why are you allowing him to make an excuse like "im tired" for a terrible performance? Make up your minds people! LOOKING FORWARD TO HIS SHUT OUT VS TORONTO! I bet Jerry WONT BE THERE!
