Full Nelson: Bills WR joins Howard and Jeremy

Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver David Nelson will spend the week working with his teammates, and waiting to hear good news on the NFL labor front.  Nelson says he hasn't heard too much about progress made on the lockout, but that the little he has heard is encouraging.

Who will be this year's David Nelson?  Tough to tell because there are no undrafted free agents in the NFL this year...at least not yet.

Nelson came to Buffalo by way of the University of Florida and finished the season as one of the top targets for Ryan Fitzpatrick.  Nelson closed out the 2010 season with 31 catches, including 3 TDs.  Those numbers might not seem too impressive, but consider that it came in 10 games, with the three touchdowns coming in his last three games.

Now, he's doing what he can to prepare for his sophomore season.

"The time off is nice but it can be dangerous for guys who don't know how to motivate themselves or take care of business.  I love hanging out with my teammates.  Off season is a chance for us to hang out together, go golfing, get to know each other and build that chemistry.  We kind of missed that this year especially for a young team like us, it could have helped us.  You can't put words on it just because of the chemistry and the timing and the relationship you build with your quarterback.  That's the guy who will be throwing you the ball on Sunday.  Fitz has to be comfortable with us and we have to be comfortable with him so any time he calls, we are there."

Nelson gets the benefit of time spent working with Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The Bills air attack which didn't put up monstrous numbers, was the most potent attack in Buffalo in years.

"I know as a receiver group we didn't want them to draft a quarterback.  We are very confident in what Ryan can do and we like having him back there.  we are excited about the direction we are headed in.  was a huge confidence boost for him to know the front office has his back."

While Nelson will work with Bills players this week, he's also been getting reps in with other players around the league.

"Its great being able to learn from an all pro player like (Jason) Witten, getting to pick his brain.  Being able to run routes with Austin who was undrafted just like me and has been a pro bowl caliber player the last 2 years.  I'm the kind of guy where I will ask a lot of questions and I will listen and both guys have been great about answering all my questions."

Now we wait to see just WHEN the NFL returns.  Nelson says he hasn't heard too much, but that player rep George Wilson has expressed a bit more optimism than before.

Nelson has had his share of distractions...a lifelong Mavericks fan, he's been able to drink in the NBA playoffs.

"I'm the biggest Mavericks fan there is. I went to almost every playoff game.  It was an unbelievable experience. Its been a rough journey as a Mavericks fan, its nice to finally say we are world champions.  I was right there in the thick of it and there were guys chest bumping and high fiving and I was right there with them like a true fan.  If I had to pick one team to beat it would have been this team not because of what they had done but because of the players they have.  I wouldnt say it erases 2006 but it does help."
