Watching the NCAA National Semifinal for lacrosse between Syracuse and Virginia has officially won me over to outdoor lacrosse. Any sport can grab you with exciting play, and with all apologies to Orange alum Pat Malacaro, who I'm watching the game with here in studio, it ripped my sports-loving heart out to see Cavaliers goalkeeper Bud Petit lose. After giving up a four-goal lead in what became his last game in college, Petit stood on his head to keep Virginia alive, even stopping a shot with his manhood.
Now, I'm a fringe sport kind of guy. I'm headed to All-High Stadium to watch the Queen City FC begin the defense of their NPSL Eastern Conference championship tonight in men's soccer. I tune in to college hoops, hockey and football like it's my job. Yet, I'm a hockey guy at heart, and it takes a lot to move my mind from the sport. With the Sabres, and a lot of the teams I like, out of the playoffs, a lot of different sports have grabbed my attention. It helps that my beloved Celtics have at least somewhat returned to glory, but even golf and tennis are holding my focus a bit.
