The Philadelphia Flyers’ goaltending was exposed during the playoffs. Tuesday, they took a step toward improving their goalie production by trading for the rights to Phoenix Coyotes netminder Ilya Bryzgalov.
The Flyers gave up left winger Matt Clackson, a 2012 third-round and conditional pick for the chance to negotiated a deal before July 1.
Bryzgalov turns 31 this month and went 36-20-10 with a 2.48 goals-against average and .921 save percentage.
"After several discussions with Ilya and his agent, it became very clear to us that we were not in a position to sign Ilya to a long-term contract," Coyotes GM Don Maloney said in a statement. "We will now focus our efforts on adding another goaltender to our roster for the upcoming season."
