Dont be a worry wart Freddy
I dont think Freddy should worry. Think Chan and crew are just looking to see if Spiller the Thriller has improved any. They know Fred's gonna be ready and prepared. But they gotta see where C.J. is.
08/23/2011 3:36AM
Trade him
I think they will trade him to New England before the half way point of the season. Faulk is getting old, and they need a replacement for him.
08/23/2011 3:42AM
Not just Fred
It is not just Fred who feels like the Bills are not giving him enough credit. The fans want Fred on the field too. From the Spiller pick to now, what the heck are they thinking? Fred is a do it all back, with good skills.
08/23/2011 4:11AM
Jackson has earned his spot!
There is no reason Jackson should take a back seat to Spiller. this is buddy nix trying push this Spiller on us. Spiller is the best sideline to sideline runner i have ever seen then gains two yards. What a shame what a sham. hang in there Freddy im sure the buffalo fans are behind you
08/23/2011 4:14AM
bunch of chicks
Is that all you girls over there do is talk about feelings when you are not fixing each others hair?
08/23/2011 6:15AM
MOVE HIM!!!!!
To New England for a 4th round pick, like all trades about 50% of the people will like it and 50% of the people won't, right Buddy Nix? (Seriously, why is that quote not getting more attention, I think 2% of fans liked the Evans trade and the sad thing is the fans could have drafted better then the Bills over the last 10 years)
08/23/2011 6:26AM
Hey Fred,
How many touchdowns have you scored? Ever think that might be why you are always competing for your spot?
08/23/2011 6:41AM
Two # 1 backs ? No way.
Uh Chan ? They're both number one backs ? No way. Jackson would tear this league up if he were running behind real professional football players. The guy constantly is breaking tackles and making decent gains despite the "blocking" fromthe leagues worst line. Oh, and Spiller DOES NOTHING. How can Gailey say he's a co-number one ? Someone up top (Wilson) must be telling Chan what to say.
08/23/2011 7:00AM
Love Gaily....but
I tell you what, Im on board with Gailey and have been from the start. However, if they backdoor Freddy i could be done with this team for good. Fast Freddy has been the only consistent productive player on this team the last few years and has always done what he has been asked to do. What does he have to do to get number 1 attempts? he could be a 1500 yard back!@!!!
08/23/2011 7:27AM
THINK LONG TERM
Speaking , long term and knowing you are headed on the right track, dump him, position yourself early for next years draft. My problem is I'm not sold yet. But I got a good feeling.
08/23/2011 7:35AM
Can one back be enough in the game these day?
To answer that I think it is very obvious that no you cannot run a team with simply one feature back! But for many Bill's fans there is no question Fred Jackson has been that glimmer of hope. So if he wants it to be declared that he is the no.1 RB, I think that we give it to him.
08/23/2011 8:00AM
who cares
Jackson is a back-up at best. He may be the best on this team but that is not saying much. 2 seasons almost avgering 1000 yards is not starting RB numbers. If Spiller has a chance to be good I say why not try him out. In the end Jackson may turn out to be the better back out of the 2 but again 1000 rushing is just not good. We need to take chances and find someone that can be a great back not a avg back.
08/23/2011 8:00AM
path to a QB!!
It is very evident that what this team needs is a elite Quarterback period.....Shame on the Bills for trying to put a bandaid on a major laceration. Get the QB and everything else will fall into place. Jackson is a GOOD running back but there are many of them in the league..Not so "elite" Quarterbacks. If Fred wishes to leave so be it, get a #2 or #3 pick for him, it can't hurt. It really dooesn't take a rocket scientist to figure all this out...(or does it?) We are going nowhere this year anyway. 5-11,6-10,wow.....
08/23/2011 8:14AM
Jackson SHOULD worry
Spiller is "their guy" (Gailey/Nix). They want him to be great. It helps this team AND makes them look good. Jackson is not their guy. He is a holdover. They are going to give CJ alot more touches this year. And since we are not going to run the ball 45 - 50 times a game, that means less for Jackson. I dont agree with it, but its whats going to happen.
08/23/2011 8:16AM
understandable
It's more than just not being told he's the clear #1 back. It's not going out and finding legit O-linemen. Years in the NFL are very limited..especially if your a RB..and i would hate to waste what few years i have on a team that doesn't seem to be moving in the right direction
08/23/2011 8:19AM
Jackson is right to feel that way
Chan and Buddy are doing anything they can to try to justify Spiller being the #1 pick last year. I personally think Spiller is gonna be just fine however he's been a bust to this point and Jackson is hands down the superior/smarter back and has outperformed Spiller in every aspect of the offensive game. Make Jackson the #1 RB and plug Spiller in when needed.
08/23/2011 8:20AM
TEAM
I understand everybody wants to be on a winning TEAM and in the PRE season the coaches are evaluating who should be on the TEAM and who should be off the TEAM to make it a winning TEAM. I could understand if in the regular season the coaches do not use jackson, but this doesn't count. Fred stop letting the numbers get to you. Be thankful you have a JOB and are part of a TEAM.
08/23/2011 8:21AM
BUCK-UP Fast Freddy! We LOVE You!
This actually surprises and upsets me.... I love Fred Jackson so much, maybe I hold him to a slightly unfair higher standard, but I was shocked to hear these comments from Freddy.... Dude has got to relax! Every fan of the team and player in the locker room knows who the #1 RB is... The league is different now. Gone are the days of having a primary RB... teams need a 2-headed monster. CJ needs the work more than Freddy. For Freddy to act liek a crybaby when he was in for the 2nd play of the game... gimme a break! Cmon Fred... don't be that guy.
08/23/2011 8:30AM
Fred is # 1 in my book
Fred has every right to be upset,he is underpaid for sure....The offensive line in front of him is pathetic, yet he gives 100% and is a true team player. He has more heart than anyone on the roster in my opinion....The Bills staff needs to take a football 101 class, get a offensive line,a real one,and a decent tight end.Fred is #1 until Spiller proves otherwise.
08/23/2011 8:35AM
The real fallout of the Lee Evans trade....
Once one of the most "entrenched" players on the roster (at least in the minds of the players) gets traded, Fred Jackson speaks up. And Frankly, why shouldn't he? How many 1st round draft picks does he have to outproduce?
08/23/2011 8:55AM
Not Gailey's - or Nix, or Wilson? - guy
This is crazy. Jackson is obviously the more productive back. Look, Jackson isn't a Hall of Famer. But they're trying to force this Spiller thing since Spiller is "their" guy. It's blind and stupid and wrong. With all the chances Spiller has has last year and so far this year, if he was so obviously better he would have proved it by now. He's not ready. Play the better guy.
08/23/2011 8:55AM
You have to care to be a winner
Great job Ralph, once again we are the laughing stock of the NFL…. That goes for Russ Brandon, Buddy Nix and Gailey…. How pathetic this organization has become. What was once excitement about a new regime has already turned sour as just like coaches of Bills past we have screaming needs that you choose to ignore…. Our O line was terrible last year and what did you do to improve it? Absolutely nothing…nothing! Nothing?! Why would you expect anything to change this year? Ralph, you are an absentee landlord, you have been a franchise anchor at every turn, you have fired the only men that have brought respectability to this organization (Bill Polian)..what gets me is that you are in the hall of fame, for what? Running the worst franchise with one spurt of success over 40 years? I used to be giddy with excitement for this team, I knew everybody and everything about them, now I could care less.. I try and find things to do so I don’t have to watch the game. Good for all you Bills diehards that kept your season tix, I admire that but I cant give back to a team that simply does not care about putting a quality product on the field. Wanna get a lot of Bills fans back in the mix?? I have 1 word for you ..TRY! Its that simple..TRY!! If you have a deficiency TRY to fix it, if you have a whole TRY to fill it… Just show me you are TRYING and I might actually care again.
08/23/2011 9:10AM
Chan and Nix should listen to Fred
So should Brandon. I think Fred and Darryl Talley would be better coaches & GM's.
08/23/2011 9:11AM
Stop it.
Hasn't the MO of teams to rest there running backs in the preseason? Seems to me like this is a good sign for him... I think he is confused that he is not being looked at in preseason when the reality is he should be happy the coaches are not concerned with him like they have been the past 3 seasons.
08/23/2011 9:18AM
I don't know...
This smells of the team being in love with their first round pick again... actually, it smells of Mr. Wilson (and surprisingly a little of Maybin). And Gailey, what's with this "two #1 backs" junk? Apparently the man knows QBs but not much else.
08/23/2011 9:29AM
re: Dont be a worry wart Freddy
I certainly hope that is the case -- lets give Spiller some preseason first team looks -- but Jackson should still be affirmed as the clear number one back. It seems he's left in the dark by the staff, and he has earned more than that. He is clearly a #1 back in this league and should not have to prove it anymore, and Spiller still has a long way to go to proving he deserves 10-15 touches a game. Players on other teams take notice of things like this -- the way we treat our top players is just another reason the Bills struggle in free agency.
08/23/2011 9:36AM
C.J. will get more respect...
because the Bills wasted a first round pick on what could end up being another in a long line of busts! C.J. was Chan's pick..so i think you know who will be number one at the start of the season
08/23/2011 9:43AM
Proving yourself
The sport of football is not an entitlement program. Any player should have to prove himself every game and every year. The only way to have a winning franchise and team is accountability and for players to prove/earn playing time. That said Fred Jackson is a number one back in the NFL and has proven himself year in and year out and is doing so again this preseason thus in the eyes of the fans he has earned playing time and carries. So kudos to him but the day will come whem another player Spiller or someone else proves themself and becomes the number one back. Have a great season Fred.
08/23/2011 9:49AM
Don't blame him
I don't blame him for feeling this way. Every year has to prove his consistency. I remember last year when Belichick was praising him as a player. I hope he doesn't go or get traded, but good for you Freddy Jackson. It's about time we had someone on this team willing to speak outside of the box. I think this could be a good little shake up.
08/23/2011 9:49AM
Whinners
Stop whinning and play ball. You should have to prove yourself every year. You are NOT Thurman Thomas!!!
08/23/2011 9:54AM
Shut up!!
and just play out your contract then you can go wherever you want. Be like Lee and keep your mouth shut and you will be rewarded with a trade or as a free agent.
08/23/2011 9:56AM
He wants out
Fred is probably sick of giving his all for a dysfunctional, cheap, organization that does not give its all to build a winning team.
08/23/2011 10:10AM
oh my God...
Fred's the best player on the team and the Bills are going to mess this one up,too. WHEN DOES HOCKEY SEASON START ?!!!!!!!!
08/23/2011 10:11AM
Quit Whining
I've always respected your professionalism Fred, until now. Quit your whining, virtually every player on every team is in competition for their job every Spring and you are no different. You are a very good solid back, but let's face it, you are not a top tier all-pro back that can ever feel safe about your job. Heck, even the premier backs have to look over their shoulders. It's football. It's competition. It should motivate you to work even harder, unfortunately you decided to take the low road and let it change you negatively. This is the beginning of the end of your career. Not just with Buffalo but with the NFL. Nobody wants someone who can get disgruntled so easily because you have to compete with a high draft pick.
08/23/2011 10:24AM
Just dandy
Wow. Another example of our crumbling team getting ready for a repeat of last years embarrassing season. It may be time to break out the slogan... Suck for Luck!
08/23/2011 10:42AM
He should worry
If you're gonna tell me you shouldnt have to compete for a job, you dont belong in the NFL
08/23/2011 11:11AM
Fred is the Man
I think Freddy is the man when it comes to RB position. Why would anyone ever think Spiller should be the #1. Freddy has shown what he can do...we're still waiting on Spiller. Can't say I blame him on way he feels
08/23/2011 11:17AM
Wah wah wah
We all need to prove ourselves everyday in almost everything we do. Welcome to the real world. Get over it and grow up.
08/23/2011 11:37AM
REALITY
Is Fred Serious? if he had half a brain he'd have known his days werwe numbered the minute Spiller was drafted. Guys like Fred are dime a dozen, if you don't think so look at the number of RB's who are now backups on other teams like Ronnie Brown or Barber. Please Fred..
08/23/2011 11:59AM
Wha wha
Must be nice being paid millions of $$$ and not feeling appreciated. I'll trade you my job any day.
08/23/2011 12:09PM
Freddy is the man
Jackson is the best the Bills have ... I don't think Spiller will ever by an every down RB like Fred Jackson. Spiller is a change up RB. Brought in for the occasional change of pace and gadget play. Basically he's the Roscoe Parish of our RBs.
08/23/2011 12:09PM
you know
this is being made into something bigger than what it really is. this is the works of hockey reporters (gleason/hamilton) trying to create controversy in what is already a difficult situation with the football team. it's like what sully said todayin the news, the fans aren't dumb. jackson will get the ball, and spiller better get the ball since we drafted him 9th overall last season!
08/23/2011 12:15PM
Of Course He's Unhappy .....
it's Buffalo - everyone is unhappy to play in Buffalo.
08/23/2011 12:21PM
Buffalo Sucks
Just proves the point that nobody want to play for this team in this town!!!!!
08/23/2011 12:28PM
Proving yourself
I'm sorry but doesn't every single player in the NFL need to prove themselves, every down, every game, every year? Please Fred, I like your performance on the field but please don't act like your placed in a separate category. Don't be so thin skinned. So what if you have to prove yourself - it always has healthy benefits in the long run.
08/23/2011 12:30PM
Bills should have....
Traded him instead of Marshawn. They'd have more of a thunder and lightning combo and probably netted more in return for Freddy then BEASTMODE.
08/23/2011 12:31PM
Spiller - Really?
Not only should Spiller not be the starter, he shouldn't even make the team. What has he done that shows any promise? Jackson on the other hand has been great since I watched him in the fourth quarter of a preseason game for the first time. He is the ultimate team and football player. I think they just started Spiller to give him enough rope to hang himself (which he did). Management needs to learn to cut their losses and move one. Admitting a mistake is no big deal. Compounding it is! Cut Spiller and name Jackson the starter. End of story.
08/23/2011 12:34PM
Hey Fred,
How many touchdowns have you scored? Action Jackson is just another average running back who racks up garbage yards and cannot make the big play when necessary.
08/23/2011 12:38PM
I don't understand at all...
Fred Jackson has been the most consistent back they've had all along. The fact that he is saying this publicly makes me believe that he's right and Gailey is covering his tracks. With the exception of Jackson, one safety, one linebacker with knee issues, one DE who has only played two preseason games, one receiver, and one punter, the whole rest of the team is average at best! I've been a Bills fan for almost 40 years. I've stayed loyal through thick and thin, but I'm pretty sure that if they actually trade Fred Jackson, I'll be done being a Bills fan until Ralph finally sells the team. If you can't keep the best offensive player on your team happy (there's an argument to be made that Stevie Johnson is the best player, but we'll see what he can do without Evans drawing coverage away) when you suck as much as the Bills do, then there is not much hope at all. They should be bending over backwards for this guy. PLEASE Ralph, sell this team!
08/23/2011 1:13PM
Hey
Buddy and Chan have to try every chance they can to justify the Spiller pick to make it look like they're smart!
08/23/2011 1:18PM
Who would you....
rather see Belichick pick up, Spiller or Jackson? That should answer who is the number one.
08/23/2011 1:26PM
He should be unhappy
He's consistently been the best back on this team for the past several years and is never given the respect that he deserves from the coaching staff. It's not a suprise as they don't have a clue on One Bills Drive. I gave up my season tickets after 22 years because Ralph and his band of merry misfit managers can't get anything right. I'll always be a Bills fan, but the owner and incompetent front office make it awfully difficult to root for them.
08/23/2011 1:48PM
With respect to Freddy
I have a lot of respect for the small college (Coe) grad but shouldn't all players have to CONTINUALLY prove themselves? Especially on a last place team, no roster spot should be safe. Once you get comfortable, you start to weaken. Keep going strong Freddy.
08/23/2011 2:10PM
RE: He should worry
I think what Fred is referring to is the fact that, depite very impressive performances and production year after year OBD is always looking to replace him. It is a classic example of pedigree and a coaching change. The Coe College undrafted FA of the previous regime versus the first round pick of the present regime. It is unfair. He should be aggravated. He has done it, time and time again. Gailey preaches "production" and "consistency" is key to playing time, well Fred is the most consistent and productive player in a Bills uniform by far. CJ can wait a couple more years. Gailey forcing him onto the field, cutting into Freds carries, is insulting to both Fred and the fans.
08/23/2011 2:26PM
Freddy is right
He is a proven vet that has always produced when given the oppurtunity …… also a team leader and you know He is going all out on every play If anything maybe use both backs cuz they Need Freddys blocking anyway to make up for ineptness of o-line
08/23/2011 3:12PM
Trade Him...
C'mon, Buddy. Trade him away for next to nothing. The bean counters will be happy and you can always change your uniforms next year to keep selling hope...
08/23/2011 3:22PM
who cares!!!!
Call me when they function as a real NFL team...when does hockey start!!!!
08/23/2011 4:05PM
bad situation brewing
he has been my secret weapon on my fantasy team - a late round pick up that produces solid numbers. he deserves respect. a decent back that catches and runs hard.
08/23/2011 4:17PM
Please
It's not enough he makes millions?? Let me tell my boss I feel "disrespected and not appreciated". That would get me far. He should have real problems. All coddled babys!
08/23/2011 4:47PM
Good Turned Bad
Well Freddie? I thought you were the kind of football player Buffalo needed? last year you got your agent to whine n cry for a new contract and you got it- now you feel unappreciated and would like to be traded? I guess money does change people? changedyou from an honest hardworking running back to a whining prima donna- turn in your cup for a Tutu Freddie
08/23/2011 5:42PM
hey hey fredd Guy
Maybe the reason he has not scored that many touchdowns is because the Bills dont give him any chances to. I mean his stats are pretty dang good given the limited amount of time they use him. I mean the dude got 927 yds last year and they didnt even start using him until like week 6 or 7 after they realized Spiller was garbage and even then they still didnt show him no love by not giving him many carries.
08/23/2011 7:11PM
Re Move Him
A stupid move like a trade to New England would fit this club like a glove. The Patriots would jump at the chance for Fred Jackson. Plunging the knife deeper as the destroy the Bills again
08/23/2011 8:34PM
So
This is where we are at so far and the preseason is not even over yet. They trade the best player on offense and probably the best player on the team for a 4th round pick. Makes sense if you want to acquire another 4th rounder and parlay that into a 2nd or 1st round pick. Problem is...they don't do that. They will draft a marginal talent with that 4th round pick that will be out of pro football all together in a year's time. It's obvious there is next to no committment to winning in this organization and the lowest standard of excellence among all professional sports teams. Ralph Wilson does not care about winning a championship and not even winning period. What is awful to know is that he thinks that the best shot to win the superbowl was 20 years ago and they needed to get lucky to win (rather than make smart decisions and win a championship when they had the chance). Nope according to Ralph it was luck and all luck. He lucked into Bill Polian and John Butler, everything else after was bad luck? More like bad ownership and not just bad ownership...the worst ownership. I still say the most damning decison Ralph made for this franchise was hiring Marv Levy as the GM who in turn hired Jauron as the head coach. That move casused the rest of the NFL to lose all respect for Ralph Wilson and the Buffalo Bills. No one respects this team because of ownership. No one. If this is the way things are going to be for the duration that Ralph Wilson is going to have this team and they are going to be gone when he dies anyway...then what is the point of having a team here at all!!!???? I would rather not have an NFL team here, if this is the substandard, awful, pathetic, product that they are going to put out there year after year. Nuff said.
08/23/2011 9:02PM
Freddy's Average
This guy averages 4.4 yds per carry with this O-Line. He should be paid like a number 1 back
08/23/2011 11:44PM
Donovan McNabb
My other favorite team is the Vikings, and I hope McNabb has a great season.
08/24/2011 2:49AM
We will get burned....
Go ahead trade him to New England so he can run all over us for two games this year.
08/24/2011 10:10AM
This is dumb
Most teams use two backs now, all this drama is dumb. How about instead of crying about meaningless garbage do something on the field and win some games. This franchise is a joke.
08/24/2011 6:27PM
Freddy!
He is absolutely correct. Gailey took him for granted. He's been quiet for 6 years. He out "Beasted" Lynch. He out "Spilled" Spiller. He deserves all the respect and a new contract. Besides, he was the one fighting all the Broncos when Jones was laid out! Nix, do the right thing and make him a Bill for life. It'll pay!!!!!!!!
